6. 補足

6-1. 参考資料

最高位、クレジット等、様々な切り口で、Foster、Warrenのかかわったヒット曲の一部を紹介してきましたが、最後に、彼らのかかわったHOT100ヒットを（一部、101位以下の曲も含め）全部まとめたリストを掲載します (Fig. 15, 16)。実はアルバムもやりたかったんですが、とても収拾がつかず、今回はシングル・ヒットのみにとどめています。尚、このリスト作成に際しては..

　Fosterサイトとしてのみならず、1ミュージシャンのサイトとして、その情報量の膨大さ、緻密さは群をぬく（Fosterがそれだけ膨大な仕事をしているせいでもあるが）。名古屋の浜辺くんも一目置いているらしく、彼のサイト「Chartfreak」のリンク集の中で、お薦めサイトとして紹介されていた。殆どの情報が英語で、全世界のFosterファンから頼りにされているが、作者は何と日本人で偶然にも僕の大学の後輩。あの大学にこんなツワモノがいたとは..。尚、チャート・アクションのページは、僕の全面協力 (^_^) （下のリストの元を送って、のっけてもらっただけだけど..）

　彼女のオフィシャル・サイト。TOP10ヒットを紹介するページには、11位以下どころかシングル・カットのない曲までのり、逆に抜けも多数あり、オフィシャルのわりに、その辺はかなりいい加減。

　どちらも、米国の楽曲著作権管理機関のサイト。Artist名やSongwriter名をキーに、登録されてる楽曲を根こそぎ検索可能。さらにProducer, Arranger, Musicianのクレジットでも検索できれば言うことないが、そんなキーで検索したがる奴は、meantimeにしかいないか..?

今回の記事では、FosterやWarrenのBiographyや、ヒット・チャートに登場しなかった曲は、あえてご紹介しませんでしたが、その辺、興味ある方は、ぜひ(1)や(2)のWebをご覧下さい。山ほどのっています。特にFoster自らがアーチストとして出したアルバムは、チャートには縁がなかったものの、名盤揃い!!

6-2. 名盤紹介!

せっかくなので、そんな名盤の中から、最後にここで3枚だけ、紹介しちゃいます。勿論、アルバム・チャートには顔を出さなかった作品なので、もともとFosterやAOR が好きな人以外は、多分初めての作品ばかりでしょう。でも私にとって、これらのアルバムは、オール・タイムのお気に入りのBest3です。

(1) "Airplay"/Airplay (1980)
盟友Jay Graydonとのテンポラリー・ユニット"Airplay"による、AORの永遠の金字塔！彼らが本気で"売れる曲"狙いで作った作品群を、スーパー・ハイ・トーンの新進ボーカリスト Tommy Funderburkが歌った、ポップ・ロックのお手本ともいうべき、かっこいい曲揃い！ "Nothin' you can do about it"(Manhattan Transferへの提供曲)や "After the love's gone"のセルフ・カバーも収録。当時人気上昇中だった、弟分ともいうべきTOTOのメンバーも多数参加。あいにく本国では、レコード会社のプロモーションがなく、殆ど売れなかったが、日本、特に業界人への影響はものすごく、ピアノの8ビートのコード連打等をはじめとするこの手のサウンドが、当時の日本歌謡界を席捲することに。(典型例は、聖子の"チェリーブロッサム"。またここ最近は、Every Little Thingが、フォロワーとして君臨。) また、河合奈保子など、よせばいいのに金にモノをいわせ、実際にFoster/Graydonらを曲作りや演奏に参加させたレコーディングも多数行われ、「この日本人のボーカルさえなきゃ、最高なのに!」という作品も多数発売されていた。

(2) "The best of me"/David Foster (1983。1985に選曲をかえ、Remixして再発。)
Foster初のソロ・アルバム。タイトル曲等の２曲を除き、全曲インストルメンタル。彼の手がけた大ヒット曲、名曲のセルフ・カバー("Look what you've done to me"等)及び、その後、詞がついて、誰かに提供されてヒットした曲の原形("Through the fire"等)が大半を占める。"Airplay"とうってかわり、バラード請負任かつピアニストとしての彼の魅力が凝縮され、トワイライト・タイムの恋人たちのBGMには最適!日本企画作品という点も要注目。即ち彼も、日本で先に、アーチストとしての才能の可能性を高く評価されてたわけ。米国での彼の初のソロ・アルバムは、"Love theme from St.Elmo's fire"のヒットの後、86年にその曲をフィーチュアして、やっとだされているのだから。

(3) "A touch of David Foster"/David Foster (1992)
実質、Various Artistsとクレジットすべきアルバムで、Fosterの手がけた大ヒット曲、名曲のオリジナル・アーチストでの(一部例外あり)コンピレーション。80年代の彼の活躍ぶりを知るのに格好の入門アルバムであるとともに、男性ボーカル、女性ボーカル、インストルメンタルが、絶妙なバランスで並び、BGMにも最適。歌詞さえ気にしなきゃ、そのまま丸ごと結婚披露宴BGMにも使える。 (でも結婚式で"After the love's gone"じゃ、まずいよなあ..）
